A flat, unused backyard is one of those spots that just sits there - full of potential but going nowhere. That's exactly what we were working with here. The homeowner wanted a real outdoor space. Somewhere the family could actually use. So we got to work building something that would hold up and look good doing it.

We started by installing 6x6 timber edging to frame the entire area. That edging does two things - it gives the space a defined border and it keeps everything contained. No gravel creeping out into the lawn over time. Once the frame was set, we filled the interior with river rock for a clean, low-maintenance finish that doesn't need mowing, weeding, or much of anything else.

Right in the center of it all, we built a solid fire pit from the ground up. That's the anchor point of the whole space. It gives the area purpose. You can picture exactly how this yard gets used on a Friday night once the sun goes down.

The curved timber retaining wall running along the back half of the space is what really ties it together. It adds some structure and definition, separating the gathering area from the rest of the yard. That combination of hardscaping elements - the edging, the gravel, the retaining wall, and the fire pit - is what takes a plain backyard and turns it into a spot people actually want to spend time in.

This kind of work is what we do at Total Landscaping Concepts LLC. Whether you've got a sloped yard that needs a retaining wall or a flat space just waiting to become something useful, we can help you get there. Simple, functional, built to last - that's the goal every time.
